Successful Thanksgiving Week for FSU Athletics

Friday, November 23 2018 has been a glorious day for the Seminoles of Florida State. Four of the Seminoles athletics team competed today, and all of them came away with huge wins. You had the Men’s Basketball team defeat a top 20 LSU team in overtime, getting them to the finals of the Advocare Invitational. The Women’s Basketball has advanced all the way to the finals of the Junkanoo Jam after defeating Eastern Kentucky yesterday. The Women’s Soccer team is off to another final four college cup, after beat perennial power Penn State 1-0 on Thanksgiving Day. Finally the FSU Volleyball team closed their season with a win against North Carolina State, they finish the season 19-9.

Men’s Basketball: #14 FSU 79 #19 LSU 76

This game had it all, and was very intense starting from tip off. It was a back and forth all game, drawing all the way into overtime. Florida State out rebounded LSU 43-40, and had a 22-4 offensive rebound edge. For the third straight game, Mfiondu Kabengele had to of been the MVP for Florida State. He scored 15 points, had four rebounds, and even had the last second three point attempt to win the game in overtime. Saturday the Noles will try to win the Advocare Invitational against defending national champions Villanova.

Women’s Basketball: FSU 62 Eastern Kentucky 45

The Florida State Women’s Basketball defeated Eastern Kentucky, 62-45, on Friday night at the Junkanoo Jam in Bimini, Bahamas. This will move them into the Championship round against #12 Iowa. The Lady Noles have won this tournament multiple times, and are now 5-1 on the season.

Women’s Soccer: #5 FSU 1 #14 Penn State 0

For the tenth time in school history, and the first time since 2015, the Lady Noles are heading to the 2018 NCAA Women’s College Cup as No. 5 Florida State (18-4-3) posted a 1-0 shutout against No. 14 Penn State (18-6-1) in front of 2,209 fans on Friday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

Volleyball: FSU 3 Sets NCSU 1 Set

The Florida State volleyball team (19-9, 15-3 ACC) took down NC State (15-13, 9-9 ACC) in four sets on the road on Friday afternoon, giving the Seminoles two wins to close out the season. With a 15-3 conference record, Florida State finishes the regular season in second place in the ACC. The team turns their attention to the NCAA Tournament selection show, which will air on ESPNU this Sunday, November 23 at 8:30 pm ET. Florida State looks for its 10th straight tournament appearance and 21st overall this season. FSU is one of only 12 programs who have made the last nine consecutive tournaments, and looks to continue being a staple program in the postseason.
