In our weekly segment, we talk to Tallahassee rapper and Florida State football super fan, TaReef KnockOut.

TaReef not only wants the Seminoles to win each week, but he wants them to look good while doing it. In the past, TaReef popularized hashtags such as #PackTheGarnetPants and #WhiteOutTheIrish.

Over the past few seasons, he was the most vocal voice on social media in his push for white jersey numbers to return to the home jerseys. Each week, TaReef will give his insight on the uniform selections for FSU and its opponent from the previous week and weigh in on what the Seminoles and their next opponent should wear for the contest upcoming.

FSU was idle this past week, but in our time this week with TaReef KnockOut, we’ll look back on the uniform selections for the Seminoles’ past contest against Louisville. He’ll also make his uniform choice for Saturday’s contest against Pittsburgh.

TaReef KnockOut Weighs In

Thoughts on FSU’s uniform choice against Louisville?

Honestly, I thought we should’ve went with traditional away for the sleepy nooner. FSU hasn’t played well either time wearing all white this season, only scoring 26 points while giving up a c-note (100). I doubt (head coach Mike) Norvell uses that combo anymore this year.

Thoughts on Louisville’s uniform choice?

Had no issues with it. There’s so much you can do with Louisville’s red and black combos. They have a lot of looks.

What should FSU wear this week against Pittsburgh?

I’m feeling like off the bye week, we go back to the traditional home this weekend. With the white numbers finally coming back, I’m a big fan of the tri-color look — gold helmets, garnet tops and white pants. FSU has only worn that combo once — back in 2004 for the Orange Bowl. I’d love to see that look revived by Coach Norvell at some point, if not Saturday.

What should Pittsburgh wear this week?

Pitt has worn their classic away uniform all season with yellow lids, white tops, and yellow pants. Something tells me the blue pants could make the trip to Tallahassee on Saturday.

Where did your passion for sports uniforms come from? When did you start to really weigh in on the topic?

I’ve always enjoyed the aesthetics that make up sports, especially in football. Uniforms, field paint, end zones — the Rose Bowl is the greatest — etc. I felt my voice really grew with the topic once I pushed for the garnet pants to return in 2017 at FSU. It was dope to see FSU fans who could relate, and it gave me a voice and platform for something that means a lot to people.

Recent Uniform History vs. Pittsburgh

Since Pittsburgh joined the ACC in 2013, the Seminoles and Panthers have met just once. That came in Pittsburgh’s first game as a member of the conference on Labor Day in 2013 at Heinz Field. FSU went with the traditional road look with white jerseys on gold pants in Jameis Winston’s memorable debut.

Prior to that, the teams had not met since 1983 at Pittsburgh. FSU has worn garnet jerseys on gold pants in each of the last three contests against Pitt in Tallahassee. In the 1971 contest at Doak Campbell Stadium, FSU wore white tops.
